IT professionals after Myanmar military coup

IT professionals – software engineers, DevOp technicians, IT startup companies, etc. in Myanmar are completely changing the course of their professional journey. Even the talented JavaScript developers, AI engineers, DevOp engineers from my network are now going underground, taking up arms and fighting back Military regime. Since no practical support from the West and UN, they can only rely on the domestic and foreign supporters within the community, 3D printed materials, launching online games that can generate revenues to sustain their armed revolution. It is completely different type of war going on at the other side of the world. Their belief, their determination to topple the military regime on their own are unparalleled to anything we have witnessed, yet still they are willing to give up their lives.

Six years in the past before coup in Myanmar were interlude of halcyon – a mirage of democratic transformation until new democratic government’s failure to diminish the underlying military authority, inability to listen and strengthen the voice of voiceless, and incapable of reconciling the federal States, yet the period was also astonishingly enough to nourishing the businesses capable to boom at unprecedented rate and embolden the younger generation to rise up and challenge the prejudice of religion influence in the society and culture that were very unsavory to them.

From the era of ex-Generals – Nay Win, Saw Maung, Than Shwe, Maung Aye, and Khin Nyunt, the country has become the breeding ground for authoritarian state of culture over the course of 70 years in the past. Those generals had committed some of the most heinous crimes in the history of Myanmar since World War II. Many of these victims were brutally executed; many more died from cold-blooded massacre. Recent military coup led by General Min Aung Hlaing carried out the similar crimes no lesser than the level of atrocity committed by his military predecessors. They all are murderers still at large.

We are entering into the 19 months of coup d'état. Business owners, professionals, high school children and colleague students, educators, revolutionists, activities, donors are looking for the answers – how long this revolution will last and what are the potential deviations and impact of the ongoing revolution. Multiple factors and variables are plugged into the calculation to formulate the equation.

I am also extremely concerned for the children and younger people who are unable to access to the sources of education and knowledge.

My philosophy and perspective are that education is just a reference; a map, and necessities; like shoe, umbrella, and clothing for our journey to walk on, but knowledge is the shining light that can guide you to the righteous path, validate and repair the foundation of education you had learned.

Life has given us the lessons and knowledges to validate and strengthen the education we had learned.
