Just the day after election in Burma, Republican senator, Mitch McConnell, sent out a message to renew the support for Aung San Suu Kyi and democratic forces within Burma, in a statement to US President Obama. Yahoo has the news, http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/myanmarvoteussenate, and Americans are pouring their comments with anger and concern as if republicans are pushing President Obama to go to war with Burmese junta just like President Bush invaded to Afghanistan.
I personally think the word "to get tough" is confusing and signal to misunderstanding on how United State government should support to democratic forces in Burma. I am a Burmese who work in US and contributing tax to the United State government, I do want to overthrow Burmese military regime with continuous support from United State government, but it doesn't necessarily mean to invade Burma with the tax I am paying for. I also don't think US is in the position to engage another military act during the public outcry over the spending tax payer money in Afghanistan war.
Mitch McConnell’s support to renewing a ban on imports from Burma earlier this year, I believe this is an urge to the President Obama to put more weight on pressure to military regime; to free Aung San Suu Kyi and all other political prisoners, to send strong signal to Burmese junta and international community that United State government shall only recognize fair election process in Burma. We don’t want to see Burmese dictatorship is being infused and injected by Chinese military influence. The claws of Chinese dragon are stretching out on the world’s map.
Remember, Burmese military regime has capability to conceal the truth elements inside the country and tricked United Nation and other ASEAN counties several times, so they can prolong their ruling power more than 20 years.
